The town
Childers sits on the Bruce Highway about 80 km from Hervey Bay, an hour's run. Its main street is a well-preserved stretch of early-twentieth-century commercial buildings and is one of the reasons the town is on most heritage itineraries through the region.
The Isis district
Around Childers the country is cane, macadamias and small crops — the working agricultural landscape that defines the Wide Bay–Burnett. For school groups and visitors from the cities it is a genuinely useful contrast to the coast.
The memorial
The Childers Palace building houses a memorial to the fifteen backpackers who died in the 2000 fire. It is handled with care by the town and we treat it the same way — we will include it if your group wants to, and we will brief the driver accordingly.
Combining it
Childers sits directly on the road to Bundaberg, so it is an easy add to a distillery day. It also works as a half-day on its own for community groups who do not want a long run.

Is it a full day?
It can be either. As a half-day it is the main street and a short district drive. As a full day, most groups extend it toward Bundaberg.
How much walking?
The main street is flat and short. Everything else can be done from the bus if the group prefers.
